Vanette preheating lamp stays on

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2005 Nissan Vanette diesel. The preheating lamp won't switch off, and the check engine light is constantly on. I've also noticed some nasty smoke when I accelerate, especially when the engine is cold. I checked the glow plugs, and they seem okay. I am suspecting the glow control unit. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Sounds familiar! I've got a Vanette as well. I had a similar problem with the preheating staying on and the engine light. For me it was a faulty connection that drove me crazy. I would take a look at the cable connections to the glow control unit. Did you check those?

Thanks for the tip! I visually inspected the connectors, but didn't do anything beyond that. What exactly was defective about the connectors in your case? Was it corrosion, or a loose connection?

Yep, sounds like what happened to me, too. The plug connector to the glow control unit had some corrosion. I would suggest having that checked at the workshop. I had to have mine replaced and after that it was fine again.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on! It was indeed the cable/plug connection to the glow control unit. Cost me 95€ to get it sorted, but now everything's working perfectly again!
