Vauxhall Adam Gearbox Issues

Hi, I'm having some gearbox issues with my 2018 Vauxhall Adam, gasoline engine. It's done 155459 km. The main problem is that the paddle shifters aren't working at all. Also, the gearbox seems to be slipping sometimes, and the shifts just aren't clean. Occasionally, I'm hearing grinding noises when it changes gears and the paddles respond very slowly. Plus, the gearbox has gone into emergency mode a couple of times, and I've got an error code stored. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

The 2018 Vauxhall Adam experienced gearbox issues, including non-functional paddle shifters, slipping, grinding noises, and emergency mode activation. The error code indicated a problem with the transmission control unit. While a transmission fluid change was considered, it was unlikely to resolve the core issues. The recommended solution was to replace the faulty transmission control unit, which successfully resolved the problems.

Sounds like a real mess! The grinding and slipping, combined with the emergency mode, definitely points to something serious within the transmission. The paddle shifter issue could very well be linked. Is the error code you are seeing related to the transmission control unit by any chance? When was the last time you had the transmission fluid checked or changed? It almost sounds like a computer issue, like a clogged artery in a human body. Is the engine light also on?

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, the error code does seem to point towards the transmission control unit. I haven't actually had the transmission fluid checked or changed since I've owned the car, so I'm unsure when it was last done. Could a fluid change really solve all these issues, even the paddle shifters not responding?

Okay, with the error code pointing to the transmission control unit and the fluid history unknown, it's highly likely the control unit itself is defective. While a fluid change might help marginally with the slipping, it won't fix a faulty control unit or the paddle shifter issue. Think of it like this: changing the oil in your car won't fix a broken spark plug. You're probably looking at a replacement or repair of the transmission control unit. I'd strongly advise taking it to a reputable workshop to get a proper diagnosis and quote. It's likely to cost around 1000€.

Thanks so much for your advice! I took it to a local garage, and they confirmed it was indeed the transmission control unit that was faulty. They replaced it, and everything is working perfectly again now. Cost me almost exactly 1000€, as you predicted. Appreciate the help!
