Vauxhall Adam VANOS Solenoid Issue

My 2014 Vauxhall Adam (gasoline engine) is giving me headaches. The check engine light is on, and I'm pretty sure my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. I've got 167470 km on the clock. A friend suggested it might be the VANOS playing up, maybe a faulty solenoid valve or something with the power supply. Anyone else had this?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Adam. Check engine light was on, and the fuel consumption was terrible. Was it throwing any engine misfire codes?

I haven't checked for specific codes, but if you had the same problem, what did it end up being? I'm trying to get an idea of what I'm looking at here, and if it's something I could fix myself.

It was the VANOS solenoid valve. I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop though. Messing with the timing chain can be risky if you don't know what you're doing.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on! Turns out it was a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves. The repair set me back around 250€, but at least it's fixed!
