Vauxhall Insignia Headlamp Leveller Warning, Fix Needed?
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Vauxhall Insignia owner experienced a headlamp leveller warning, indicating a potential issue with the headlight range control system. A similar case with a Vauxhall Astra suggested that the problem might be due to a faulty servomotor in the headlight assembly, a known weak point in Vauxhalls, especially in high-mileage vehicles. The recommended solution is to have the servomotor replaced by a mechanic familiar with Vauxhalls, as this can resolve the warning and restore proper headlight function. Following this advice, the Insignia owner had the issue fixed by a Vauxhall specialist, resulting in a successful repair and improved headlight performance.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to know what to expect. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the servomotor replacement? Also, has everything been working fine since then, or have you had any other niggles with the headlights? I'm trying to budget for this repair and want to make sure I get it sorted properly the first time round.

Hey! Yeah, happy to help with those details. I actually just got mine fixed last month, the final bill came to 1040.00 € for replacing the defective servomotor in the headlight assembly. Might sound a bit steep, but honestly, it was worth every penny because the headlights are working perfectly now. The functional limitation warning for the headlight range control completely disappeared after the repair. I can tell you that since seeing the mechanic, I haven't had a single issue with the headlights, they're adjusting beautifully now, especially when I'm driving at night or when the car's loaded up. It's actually quite nice not having that annoying warning light on the dash anymore! One tip though, make sure you go to someone who really knows Vauxhalls. My Astra's been running like a dream since the fix, but I reckon that's because I went to a specialist who knew exactly what they were doing. Hope this helps with your budgeting plans!

Thanks so much for all that info! Actually, I just got mine fixed last week after getting your advice. Went to a Vauxhall specialist in town, turned out they'd handled loads of similar cases. The whole thing cost me about 980€, a bit less than what you paid, which was a nice surprise! The funny part was when I got there, my regular mechanic had quoted me almost double that amount! The new place sorted it in about 2.5 hours, and I could literally see the difference as soon as I drove out. The warning light's gone, and the headlights are working perfectly now, especially on those dark country roads I take home. Really glad I asked here first, saved myself some cash and found a decent mechanic in the process. The car's running great now, and they even gave it a quick once-over while they were at it. Definitely keeping their number for future repairs. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, really appreciate it!

Had the same issue on my 2016 Vauxhall Astra 2.0 CDTI last winter. The headlight leveling system warning came up just like yours. Took it to my regular garage, and they diagnosed it as a faulty servomotor in the headlight assembly. Apparently, these servomotors can fail over time, especially in cars with high mileage. In my case, they had to replace the servomotor unit on the driver's side headlight. Wasn't a major mechanical issue, but it needed fixing because the headlights wouldn't adjust properly, which can be dangerous for night driving and could fail MOT. The repair took about 2 hours, they had to remove the entire headlight unit to access the servomotor. Since you've got an Insignia, the system is pretty similar to my Astra. These servomotors are a known weak point in Vauxhalls. Best to get it sorted by someone who knows these cars well, look for a garage that specializes in Vauxhall or has good experience with them.
