Vauxhall Vectra electronic parking brake failure
Summary of the thread
The electronic parking brake on a 2005 Vauxhall Vectra has failed, with the handbrake not engaging or disengaging and an error light indicating a fault. The issue is suspected to be a defective electric motor in the brake caliper. Possible causes include a faulty brake sensor or wiring issues, but the primary suspicion is the caliper motor. The recommended solution is to replace the entire caliper assembly, and it is advised to have the vehicle checked by a workshop to ensure safety and proper repair.

Thanks. I haven't checked the wiring yet, I will. I don't have the error code right now. If it is the motor in the caliper, is that a full caliper replacement, or are the motors available separately?

Yeah, it definitely points to the caliper motor. Usually, you're looking at replacing the whole caliper assembly. I've heard of some people managing to replace just the motor, but it can be tricky and sourcing the right motor can be a pain. Given it's a critical safety system, replacing the whole caliper is generally the recommended route. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop. I suspect the repair cost will be around 505€, but they can give you a definite diagnosis and sort it properly to prevent brake failure.

Sounds familiar. Does the error message give a specific code? Sometimes a faulty brake sensor can cause similar issues. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the brake calipers? A loose or corroded connection can cause weird problems with electronic parking brakes.
