I haven't pulled the cylinder heads yet. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. What did the issue turn out to be on yours? Was it definitely combustion chamber deposits causing the engine knock?

Yeah, pretty sure it was combustion chamber deposits causing detonation in my case. Honestly, save yourself the hassle and get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing. It can get nasty really quickly.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop and it turned out to be heavy carbon deposits in the combustion chamber as we suspected. They did a chemical clean and replaced the spark plugs. Cost me 425€, but it's running like a champ again!

That sounds familiar. I've got a Vectra too, although I can't remember the year right now, and I had a similar issue a while back. Engine knock, loss of power, the whole shebang. Did you check the cylinder heads at all?
