Vauxhall Vectra exhaust flap issue
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Vauxhall Vectra owner reported an issue with the exhaust flaps not functioning correctly, resulting in louder exhaust noise and a noisy engine after a cold start. The problem was suspected to be a defective exhaust flap or flap actuator. It was advised to consult a professional for repair, as a broken exhaust flap could lead to serious engine performance issues. The owner confirmed the diagnosis and had the defective exhaust flap replaced, resolving the issue.

You think it was the flap actuator? How can I check this, or is it something best left to a professional? I'm just trying to figure out if it's a simple fix or something more complex.

Well, in my case it definitely was the flap motor. Unless you're really comfortable working on the exhaust system, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. The exhaust repair itself isn't the biggest job, but a broken exhaust flap can cause some serious engine performance issues if ignored.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on – the exhaust flap was indeed defective. They replaced it for 190€. Runs much better now. I really appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I have a Vectra as well, and I had a similar thing happen a while back. Loud exhaust, error code... Was it the flap actuator perhaps?
