Vauxhall Vectra gearbox emergency mode

I've got a 2005 Vauxhall Vectra (gasoline engine) with 215418 km. The engine warning light is on, and there's an error stored. The gearbox is in emergency mode, with slippage, unclean shifts, and grinding. Could a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor be the problem?

Sounds familiar. I've got a Vectra too. Are you sure your gearbox oil level is alright? My symptoms were similar when mine was low. Did you check that already?

Thank you. I will check the gearbox oil level. But would a low oil level trigger the temperature sensor specifically? Is that possibly the root cause?

In my case, a low oil level was indeed the cause. The sensor was doing its job, indicating an issue due to the low oil. It's worth checking before you assume the sensor itself is faulty. Still, with those symptoms, a workshop visit might be wise.

Thank you. I can confirm that the low transmission oil level was the problem. After topping it up, the issue persisted and I had to visit a mechanic. After replacing the faulty temperature sensor, the error disappeared and the gearbox functions as expected. Total cost: 365€.
