Vauxhall Vectra immobilizer problem

Hi, I've got a 2006 Vauxhall Vectra with a gasoline engine and I'm having immobilizer issues. It's got about 69794 km on the clock. Sometimes the engine won't start at all, other times it starts briefly and then cuts out. I had it scanned and there's an error code related to the immobilizer. Any ideas? Maybe something with the key signal?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Vauxhall Vectra is experiencing immobilizer issues, with the engine sometimes failing to start or cutting out shortly after starting. The problem persists with both keys, suggesting it may not be a simple battery issue. A potential cause could be a faulty key signal or transponder issue, possibly requiring key reprogramming. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to properly diagnose and address the immobilizer fault.

Sounds familiar. I had similar dramas with my Vectra. Engine cutting out, immobilizer light flashing like a disco... Is it happening with both sets of keys? Have you tried the spare? I'm thinking it could be a dodgy key signal, maybe the transponder is on its way out. Has it had a new battery recently? Worth a check!

Yeah, I've tried both keys and it's the same problem with both. I've not changed the batteries recently, but I can give that a shot. When you say 'dodgy key signal', what exactly do you mean? Like, is it something I can fix myself, or am I looking at a trip to a mechanic?

Right, both keys doing it points away from just a flat battery. When I say 'dodgy signal' I mean the signal from the key to the ignition control unit. I wouldn't mess with it yourself. I ended up taking mine to a workshop, turned out the key needed reprogramming. Cost me about 45€. Best bet is to get it looked at by someone who knows what they're doing. Could be an immobilizer fault, but you need the right gear to diagnose it properly.

Okay, cheers for the advice. Sounds like a trip to the garage is in order. I was hoping it was something simple, but I don't have the gear to mess with key programming. Thanks again!
