Vauxhall Vectra injection fault

My 2002 Vauxhall Vectra with a gasoline engine is giving me a headache. The injection system seems faulty. I'm getting higher fuel consumption than usual, the engine power is noticeably reduced, and it sometimes stalls when idling. Plus, I've noticed some smoke when accelerating. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Vauxhall Vectra with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues with the injection system, leading to higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, stalling when idling, and smoke during acceleration. Possible causes include fuel delivery issues, such as leaks around the injectors or defective connections. The suggested solution involves checking for fuel leaks and scanning for error codes, with a recommendation to seek professional diagnosis. Ultimately, the problem was identified as a defective plug connection to one of the injectors, which was repaired, resolving the issues.

Smoke when accelerating on a petrol? Hmm, that's not good. Excessive fuel consumption and stalling definitely point to fuel delivery issues. Have you checked for any obvious fuel leaks around the injectors or fuel lines? Also, have you scanned the car for any error codes? That would be my first step before digging any deeper. Sounds like a bad leak to me.

Cheers for the reply. I haven't spotted any visible fuel leaks, but I haven't scanned for error codes, to be honest. Where exactly should I be looking for fuel leaks around the injectors? Are there any specific areas that are more prone to leaking? And what kind of cable or connection could be defective?

Ok, so look closely at where the fuel lines connect to the fuel rail and where the injectors plug into the fuel rail and the inlet manifold. Any dampness or smell of fuel? As for cable or plug connections, its hard to know! Often, it's the injector plugs themselves that get brittle and crack over time, leading to poor contact. Given the symptoms and lack of obvious leaks, I'd seriously consider taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis before throwing parts at it. These things can be tricky.

Thanks, appreciate the advice. Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – a defective plug connection to one of the injectors was the culprit. They sorted it out for 95€. Runs like a dream now!
