Vauxhall Vectra Parking Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Vauxhall Vectra is experiencing a parking sensor fault, with the parking assistant system non-functional and an error code stored. Possible causes include dirty or damaged sensors, dead sensors not emitting a clicking sound, or wiring and connector issues, especially given the vehicle's age. Suggested solutions involve checking for sensor clicking sounds to identify dead sensors and visiting a workshop to read the error code and inspect the wiring.

Thanks. I've visually inspected the sensors and cleaned them, but I didn't listen for a clicking sound. Could you elaborate on why that's important and how to best check?

Each sensor emits a short ultrasonic pulse. When working, you should hear a faint clicking if you put your ear close to the sensor. No click usually means the sensor is dead, or not getting power. It's a common failure. Given that you have an error code stored, I suspect a wiring or connector issue as well, especially on a car of that age. Best bet is to get it to a workshop and have the error code read, along with a check of the wiring.

I appreciate the detailed explanation. A trip to the workshop seems necessary. The diagnostic points you've outlined will be valuable. The repair cost was 95€.

Vauxhall Vectra, eh? The symptoms suggest a fault within the parking sensor system. Have you checked the sensor faces for dirt or damage? Are you certain all the sensors are clicking faintly when the system is activated? No clicking could point to a dead sensor. The stored error code would be very helpful.
