Vauxhall Vectra power loss and smoke

I've got a 2005 Vauxhall Vectra diesel with about 248532 km on it. Recently, I've noticed a reduction in engine power and smoke when I accelerate. Could a bad diesel particulate filter be causing this?

That sounds familiar. Are you seeing a drop in fuel efficiency along with the smoke and power loss? Sounds like a DPF issue. Have you checked the backpressure in the exhaust?

Thanks. I haven't checked fuel efficiency closely, but I think it's down. I haven't checked backpressure either. Can a vehicle inspection check that?

Exactly. I had similar problems with my Vectra. An inspection should show if the DPF is bad. If it is, replacement or cleaning might be needed. I'd suggest a workshop visit.

Thanks for the help. After a diagnostic, the diesel particulate filter was defective and replaced. The repair was 1550€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
