Vauxhall Vectra Sluggish Engine ECU Error
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Vauxhall Vectra with a petrol engine was experiencing sluggish performance and reduced power, with a diagnostic tool indicating a defective Engine Control Unit (ECU). The initial suspicion was a possible issue with the main relay. After further investigation, it was confirmed that the main relay was indeed the problem, and once replaced by a mechanic, the ECU was found to be functioning correctly.

Battery voltage seems fine, but hadn't considered the ECU power supply in detail. Any ideas on where to start probing, or is it best to leave it to the experts?

If the battery is ok, and you're not comfortable probing around the ECU's power supply, I'd say it's time to visit a workshop. An ECU issue can get complex fast, and you don't want to make it worse. Could save you money in the long run.

Turned out to be the main relay. The mechanic took care of it, and the ECU is fine. The repair set me back approximately 120€, which is much better than a new ECU. Thanks for your help!

Reduced power and an ECU error? Sounds like a headache. Have you checked the basics like battery voltage and the ECU's power supply? Could be a simple voltage drop messing things up.
