Vauxhall Vectra temperature issues

My 2001 Vauxhall Vectra (gasoline engine) has an odd issue. The instrument cluster shows incorrect temperatures, the check engine light comes on sometimes, and the engine takes ages to warm up. Could a restricted cooling grille or a defective fuse cause this?

Hey! That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot 307. The temperature gauge was all over the place, and the engine seemed to take forever to warm up, especially during winter. Have you checked the coolant level? Also, is the cooling fan running constantly, even when the engine is cold?

Thanks! I checked the coolant, and it's fine. I haven't watched the cooling fan when the engine is cold, though. Why would the fan matter?

In my case, the cooling fan was stuck 'on' because of a faulty sensor. The engine was constantly being cooled, so it couldn't warm up fast. Check that, but honestly, a workshop visit is best. They can diagnose it properly.

I took the Vectra to a local workshop, as you suggested. It was a defective thermostat, which made the engine run too cool and triggered the error codes. The total repair was about 52€, including parts and labor. Thanks for the help!
