Vauxhall Vectra weak battery and flickering lights

Hi. I'm having a strange issue with my 2008 Vauxhall Vectra diesel. It's only done 33444 km. Lately, the battery seems weak when starting, and the lights flicker sometimes. I've checked the battery terminals and connections, and they seem fine. Could a faulty battery sensor be the culprit?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my old Peugeot 308. Turned out to be a dodgy battery sensor messing with the charging. Is your car struggling to hold a charge, or is it just at startup?

Thanks for the quick reply! It seems to struggle mostly at startup, especially after it's been sitting for a few days. Once it's running, it seems okay, though the lights still flicker occasionally. I did a vehicle diagnostics and it reported a misconfiguration of the battery sensor. Is this the same you experienced with your Peugeot?

Yep, that's almost exactly what happened to me. The sensor was feeding wrong info to the car's computer, so it wasn't charging the battery correctly. I'd suggest getting the battery sensor checked out by a professional. It's like having a leaky faucet – a small problem that can drain your resources quickly.

Thanks a lot for your help! I took it to a local mechanic. They confirmed the battery sensor was defective and replaced it. The total cost was 315€. Everything seems fine now, the car is charging its battery correctly and the lights are not flickering anymore!
