Vectra ABS Fault Lateral Acceleration Sensor

I'm experiencing an intermittent ABS fault on my 2008 Vauxhall Vectra diesel. The ABS lamp illuminates, resulting in a complete ABS system failure. A diagnostic scan reveals an error related to the lateral acceleration sensor. Could a defective control unit be the culprit, or are there other things I should explore before a costly repair?

I had something similar happen with my old Volvo. The stability control would just go nuts sometimes, especially on the highway. Did you check your wheel alignment recently? A bad alignment can mess with the stability system.

You mention wheel alignment impacting the stability system. Could you elaborate on the connection between wheel alignment and the lateral acceleration sensor's function? I want to be sure before I pay a mechanic.

Well, with my Volvo, the thinking was that if the wheels weren't aligned correctly, the car's computer thought it was constantly in a skid. The error was similar to yours. To be honest I am not technically savvy but I would recommend going to a workshop.

After consulting with a trusted technician, it seems the control unit is indeed defective, as suspected. The repair, including a new unit and recalibration, is projected at 1000€. A hefty sum, but the safety implications necessitate immediate attention. Your input was valuable.
