Vectra engine stalling and check engine light

My 2004 Vauxhall Vectra diesel has a strange issue. The check engine light keeps coming on, and the engine occasionally stalls when idling, especially when cold. It has 107373 km on the clock. I've checked the fuel cap and there are no obvious leaks. Could this be related to the fuel tank ventilation system? Has anyone experienced similar issues?

I had something similar happen with my Vectra. Is your fuel efficiency also worse than usual? The light and the stalling could point to a problem with the fuel tank ventilation. It might be a faulty pressure sensor or even the purge valve sticking. Have you noticed any hissing sounds near the fuel tank?

Thanks! I haven't noticed any hissing, but fuel efficiency does seem a bit off. Where exactly is the purge valve located, and is it something I can check myself without special tools? Also, what was the exact problem with your car?

On mine, it turned out to be a defective activated charcoal filter causing a leak in the system. I didn't try to fix it myself as it's part of the whole emission control system, and I didn't want to mess anything up further. Based on your description, I would highly recommend taking it to a workshop. System failures like this can be tricky to diagnose without the right equipment.

Alright, thanks! I took it to a local garage, and it indeed was the activated charcoal filter! They replaced it for 275€, and now it runs smoothly. I appreciate your help!
