Vectra gearbox slipping
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Vauxhall Vectra is experiencing gearbox slipping and clunky shifting, particularly when cold. The issue may be related to the transfer case, potentially due to oil wear faults. A similar problem was resolved by replacing gears in the transfer case and refreshing the oil, suggesting this as a possible solution.

Yeah, that's it exactly! Struggling is the word. Like it's hunting around before it finally slams into gear. You reckon it's defo the transfer case oil wear thing? Did you have any oil leakage as well?

Could be. Mine was doing the same hunting thing, and then BAM, harsh shift. I didn't spot any oil leaks myself, but the workshop guys said the oil was proper mucky and worn. To be honest I'm not sure what was at fault, I'd suggest you go there and ask them about it.

Cheers for the help! At least I know I'm not completely barking up the wrong tree. Just got the bill from the mechanic, new gears in the transfer case and fresh oil, 330€. Hopefully that'll sort it. Fingers crossed!

Sounds familiar. I've got a Vectra too, though a bit newer, and I had similar issues last year. Gear grinding and rough shifts drove me mad! Does it feel like it's struggling to find the right gear sometimes?
