Vectra Overvoltage Faults

Hi, I've got a 2005 Vauxhall Vectra, gasoline engine, with a strange electrical issue. It's showing many fault memory entries relating to overvoltage. This is causing failures in various systems and a weak battery when starting. Mileage is 213628 km. Could a heavily discharged or defective battery cause this, or is it something else?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Vectra – loads of electrical faults popping up. For me, it turned out to be the voltage regulator. Have you checked that? What's the battery voltage reading when the engine is running?

Thanks for the quick response! Where is the voltage regulator located, and how would I check it? I'm not very experienced with car electrics, so any pointers would be great.

It's usually integrated into the alternator. Honestly, given the overvoltage situation and your lack of experience, I'd recommend getting it checked by a professional. High voltage can fry sensitive components. I ended up doing that, and it saved me a lot of hassle in the long run. It could be the regulator, or something else entirely causing the surge.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a workshop and mention the voltage regulator. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. I had to replace the car battery and that fixed the problem. Cost me 290€. Thanks again!
