Vectra Rain Light Sensor Fault

My 2008 Vauxhall Vectra (gasoline engine, 81200 km) has a rain-light sensor fault. The error memory stores a fault code, the automatic wiping function doesn't work in the rain, the automatic headlight control is inactive and the speedometer dimming no longer works. The lights switch on by themselves! Could this be a simple sensor calibration issue, or a more profound electrical problem? Has anyone experienced something similar?

That sounds frustrating! I've heard of similar problems with the Vectra's rain-light sensor. Have you inspected the sensor itself? Examine the gel pad on the windshield where the sensor sits. Are there any visible bubbles or imperfections? These can interfere with the sensor's ability to 'see' properly. Is there any damage to the windshield itself?

Thanks, I'll inspect the gel pad. But could bubbles really cause such a cascade of malfunctions – impacting not just the wipers and headlights, but also the speedometer dimming? It seems comprehensive.

It does seem far-reaching. However, seemingly unrelated systems can be interconnected via the central control unit. The light sensor sends a signal to the central computer, and it distributes the order to those other parts. Think of it as a domino effect initiated by a faulty sensor reading. Check the sensor and potentially replace the gel pad. If the problem persists, consult a workshop with diagnostic equipment to delve deeper into the system's error logs.

I inspected the gel pad and it was riddled with tiny bubbles! The workshop replaced the pad and cleared the error codes for 62€. Everything is working perfectly now! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
