Vectra starting issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Vauxhall Vectra diesel experienced starting issues, occasional engine cutouts, and rough running. The initial suspicion was the ignition switch, with a query about a related fuse. Flickering dashboard lights suggested a voltage drop, indicating a potential issue with the ignition switch. Replacing the ignition switch resolved the problem, and the car now runs perfectly.

Ignition coil on a diesel? And yes, the dashboard lights do flicker a bit. What does the flickering mean?

Oops, my bad on the coil; I was thinking petrol! Flickering lights often mean a voltage drop. In my case, it turned out to be a dodgy connection in the ignition switch itself. I'd say get it checked out by someone who knows their stuff. Might be more than just a fuse.

The ignition switch was the problem. A new one and labour cost 52€. Runs perfectly now.

Sounds rough. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane. Check your ignition coil; when it goes bad, it causes havoc with starting and running. Also, look at your dashboard lights when you try to start the car. Do they dim or flicker? That can be a clue.
