Vectra VANOS Faulty Solenoid

Having issues with my 2003 Vauxhall Vectra diesel. 167049 km on the clock. The check engine light keeps popping up, and fuel consumption has increased. Reading about VANOS issues, specifically on the inlet camshaft. Could this be related, perhaps a faulty solenoid valve or a power supply problem? Anyone else experienced something similar?

VANOS on a Vectra? Not something you hear every day! Is the engine running rough, especially at idle? Have you had it scanned for any specific fault codes? If it's the inlet VANOS, it could definitely cause those symptoms. Is the car down on power too?

Engine does feel a bit rough at idle sometimes. I did get it scanned, and it pointed towards a camshaft position sensor issue. But could that be a symptom of the VANOS problem rather than the root cause itself?

A camshaft sensor issue could be related. But honestly, with those symptoms and the code, it really does sound like the VANOS is the culprit. Have you considered getting it checked by a reputable workshop? They can diagnose it properly and give you a definitive answer.

I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on – it was a faulty solenoid valve in the inlet VANOS. Repair cost me about 250€. The check engine light is now off, and the fuel consumption seems to be back to normal.
