Vel Satis AC Not Cooling
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Renault Vel Satis with a diesel engine has an air conditioning system that isn't cooling or switching on. The initial troubleshooting involved checking the fuses, but the issue persists. Possible causes include a faulty pressure switch, AC relay, or refrigerant leaks. It is suggested to have a professional check for refrigerant leaks and inspect the valves within the AC system, as these issues require specialized equipment and expertise.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say faulty valves, do you mean individual valves within the AC system itself? And how would I check for refrigerant leaks myself? I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, or where to look, to be honest. Is that something I can easily do, or does it need special equipment?

Yep, valves inside the system. Honestly, unless you're super confident, checking for refrigerant leaks properly needs specialized equipment. Most of the time you can't even see a refrigerant leak. I'd book it into a shop. If it is the valves, expect a bill of about 1000€.

Okay, thanks so much for the advice! I suspected it might be beyond my capabilities. I'll take it to a local garage for a proper diagnosis and repair. I appreciate you confirming that those valve issues are a likely culprit. I'll post what I find out.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Vel Satis. It turned out to be faulty valves. Could be that. Have you checked for any refrigerant leaks? That's always the first place to start before suspecting the compressor or any other component.
