Vel Satis belt tensioner issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Renault Vel Satis owner experienced a malfunction with the belt handover, suspecting a defective belt bringer. A similar issue was shared by another individual, who had a faulty tensioner pulley in a different car model. The suggested solution was to have the belt tensioner checked by a mechanic. Upon inspection, the problem was confirmed to be the belt tensioner, which was then repaired, resolving the issue.

No squealing, but the serpentine belt is acting up. Can you explain what was wrong with your Saab and how you fixed it?

Well, the belt started slipping and the engine noise was terrible. Eventually, the belt almost came off completely. I took it to a workshop. They told me the tensioner pulley was jammed, and that’s why the belt wasn't running smoothly. Given that your belt handover isn't working anymore, a visit to the mechanic might be worthwhile.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I've taken your advice and had it checked out. Turns out it was indeed the belt tensioner. Repair cost me 455€. Runs smoothly now!

Hey, sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Saab 9-3. Belt squeal was driving me nuts, and the engine felt sluggish. Turned out the tensioner pulley was shot. Is the belt squealing or is your engine's performance noticeably worse?
