Vel Satis inlet VANOS fault

I am experiencing a problem with my 2002 Renault Vel Satis gasoline. The engine has 93665 km. The check engine light is on, and fuel consumption is higher than expected. The error indicates a fault in the inlet VANOS mechanics. Suspect camshaft solenoid valve or power supply.

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Volvo, though it was the exhaust camshaft that was giving me grief. Same symptoms: check engine light, poor fuel economy. Have you checked the wiring to the solenoid valve? In my case, it turned out to be a corroded connector. A bit of cleaning, and the problem was solved, at least for a while.

Certainly. On my Volvo it was the connector directly attached to the camshaft solenoid valve. I would suggest that you check the cable and the plug. But if cleaning doesn't solve the problem, you will need professional help from the workshop.

Understood. I appreciate the suggestion. Indeed the cause was one of the camshaft solenoid valves as it turns out. After replacement the issue has been resolved. The total repair cost was 250€.
