Vel Satis outside temperature sensor fault

I'm having a weird issue with my 2008 Renault Vel Satis, diesel engine. The error memory keeps throwing an 'outside temperature sensor' fault. Sounds simple, right? But here's the kicker: the air conditioning won't switch on at all, the spray nozzles are freezing up in cold weather, and the mirror heating isn't working either. It's like everything linked to the outside temperature is kaput. I've checked the obvious stuff – fuses, visually inspected the sensor itself – but no luck. Anyone else had this drama?

I had a similar issue with my Vel Satis. These symptoms may indicate a defective cable or plug connection to the temperature sensor. Have you checked the wiring harness for any signs of damage or corrosion?

Thanks for the tip! When you say 'wiring harness,' are we talking about the plug that connects directly to the sensor itself, or something further back in the system? And did you have all those same symptoms – A/C, spray nozzles, mirror heating – or just the temperature reading being off?

Yes, I am referring to the plug that connects directly to the sensor. In my case, the symptoms were identical to yours. Given the multitude of affected systems, it points to a central sensor issue. Considering your troubleshooting efforts, it might be prudent to visit a workshop for a diagnostic check. This will help determine if the sensor or its wiring is indeed the cause.

Thanks so much! Sounds like I'm heading to the shop. I'll post a resolution once I get it sorted, in case anyone else runs into the same problem. Apparently, it will be around 95€, sensor replacement costs included.
