VelSatis Brake Light Error

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2009 Renault VelSatis (gasoline engine). The car keeps throwing an error, and the brake lights aren't working. I checked the error memory with a cheap OBD2 scanner, and it says something about a faulty brake light switch. The infotainment system also keeps displaying an error message related to the braking system. I've only driven 76061 km, and I'm a bit lost. Could it be something I did? Has anyone else experienced this?

I had a similar issue with my Opel Astra a few years ago. The symptoms seem to match: error message and brake light failure. Did you check the brake pedal position sensor? It might be related.

Brake pedal position sensor? I'm not sure I even know what that is or where to find it. Is it difficult to check? Any chance you could point me in the right direction? I'm not very mechanically inclined, I'm afraid.

In my case, the root cause was the driver's foot pressing too hard on the brake pedal, which caused damage to the brake light switch. I suggest you visit a workshop. A diagnostic device should provide more information.

Thanks for the hint! I took it to the shop, and you were right! It was indeed a faulty brake light switch, likely caused by me pressing too hard on the brake pedal. They replaced it, and all is well now. The repair cost was 0€. Thanks again!
