VelSatis diesel engine power loss
Summary of the thread
The 2003 Renault VelSatis diesel experienced a significant reduction in engine power, rough idling, increased fuel consumption, and jerking during acceleration. The check engine light was on, and the initial suspicion was a rich-running engine. After replacing the air filter without improvement, a defective injector was suspected. A professional diagnosis confirmed a faulty injector, which was replaced, resolving the issues and restoring smooth engine performance.

The rough running is more pronounced when the engine is cold, but it persists even when the engine is warm. The jerking is most noticeable under acceleration, especially in lower gears. Did your Opel Insignia exhibit similar behavior? What was the eventual cause of the problem?

Yes, the symptoms you describe are very similar to what I experienced. Given the age of your VelSatis and the mileage, a faulty injector is a strong possibility. I recommend that you have the injection system professionally diagnosed. It could be a simple fix, or it could be more involved. I ended up taking mine to the workshop because I don't have the skills to repair it myself.

Thanks for the advice. I took the VelSatis to a workshop. After diagnosis, they confirmed that an injector was defective and replaced it. The total cost was 515€. The engine now runs smoothly, and the check engine light is off.

I had a similar issue with my 2011 Opel Insignia, also a diesel. Reduced power and the check engine light were the first signs. I never checked the air filter on mine. Is the rough running consistent, or only under certain conditions?
