VelSatis diesel injector issue

My 2007 Renault VelSatis diesel (98638 km) has a 'mixture preparation error'. Engine power is reduced, the check engine light is on, and the engine runs rough. It also jerks during acceleration and sometimes stalls at idle. Could a defective injector be the cause? What diagnostics would confirm this?

Reduced power, rough running, and stalling on a VelSatis diesel? Sounds nasty! Have you checked the basics, like the intake manifold or the catalytic converter? That check engine light is screaming for attention. Are you seeing signs of a rich mixture, like excessive smoke or fuel smell? When were the spark plugs last changed?

I visually inspected the intake manifold and found no obstructions or damage. I haven't assessed the catalytic converter's functionality. Would a pressure differential test across the converter be advisable? There is a faint fuel odour upon starting, but no excessive smoke. What is the relevance of spark plugs in a diesel engine?

Ah, spark plugs! My apologies, brain fart there – diesel engines don't have them. Fuel odour isn't good. Sounds like a leaky injector alright. I’d recommend taking it to a workshop. Playing around with fuel injection can be risky and without the right tools, you may end up doing more harm than good.

I took the vehicle to a workshop. The diagnosis confirmed a defective injector, which was replaced. The total cost was 515€. The vehicle now operates optimally. Your assistance was invaluable.
