VelSatis oil pressure warning and engine noise
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Renault VelSatis owner experienced an oil pressure warning light and loud engine noise, suspecting low oil pressure and a potential defect in the oil pump. Despite checking the oil level and considering an oil change, the issue persisted. A fellow VelSatis owner suggested checking the oil pressure sensor and gauge, but ultimately recommended visiting a mechanic. The problem was confirmed to be a faulty oil pump, which was replaced, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried an oil change yet, as the oil was changed not a long time ago. I was also thinking about the sensor. But I am not sure if the VelSatis has an oil pressure gauge. Where is the oil pressure sensor located? Do you know where I can find it?

I had similar noises with my VelSatis. Turned out the oil pump was faulty and wasn't providing enough pressure, and I had to get it replaced at a workshop. That's why I mentioned the pressure gauge; if you had one, you could confirm before replacing the pump. If it were my car, I'd take it to a trusted mechanic. If the pump fails completely you could damage the engine.

Thanks a lot for the help! I took it to the workshop, and you were right, it was the oil pump. The oil change and filter replacement didn't help. They replaced the oil pump, and it cost me 755€. Everything seems fine now.

Hey, I also drive a VelSatis, although I haven't had the oil pressure light come on yet. But, those noises sound ominous. Have you tried a simple oil change, maybe with a new filter? Also, is there an oil pressure gauge in the VelSatis to check if the sensor might be faulty?
