Velsatis Overheating Communication Error

I'm having trouble with my 2007 Renault VelSatis with a gasoline engine. At 100033 km, the engine is overheating, and the check engine light is on. There's coolant spillage under the car, so there's excessive pressure in the cooling system. Diagnostics show a control unit communication error. I think it's a bad cable or plug. Has anyone had similar data link or connectivity problems?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Renault VelSatis with a gasoline engine is experiencing overheating and a check engine light, with diagnostics indicating a control unit communication error. The issue is suspected to be caused by a bad cable or plug, leading to excessive pressure in the cooling system and coolant spillage. The problem was resolved by cleaning and securing a corroded connector on the engine control unit and replacing a faulty thermostat.

Whoa, overheating VelSatis isn't fun! That check engine light could be screaming about anything. A coolant spill? Yikes, pressure's definitely not where it should be. A dodgy connection sounds plausible. I'd double-check all the wiring and plugs around the control unit, maybe even clean 'em with some contact cleaner. What diagnostic trouble code are you pulling? Could be a software glitch too, but those connections are usually the culprits. Has the car been throwing any other weird codes or acting strangely?

The diagnostic trouble code indicates a generic communication failure within the engine control module. I'm going to inspect the wiring harness and connectors more thoroughly. Is there a specific data link or component known to be problematic on this model?

Right, a generic communication failure... sounds like the ECU is throwing a tantrum. Honestly, on these older VelSatises, it could be almost anything in the data link. Given the overheating and coolant issues along with the communication error, I really think you should take it to a workshop. It sounds like more than just a loose wire, and you don't want to risk cooking the engine. Messing with ECUs can be tricky.

I took it to a workshop as suggested. It was a corroded connector on the engine control unit. Cleaning and securing the connection, and replacing a faulty thermostat, fixed the overheating and communication error. Total repair cost was 95€.
