VelSatis Overheating Electric Fan Issue

My 2008 Renault VelSatis (gasoline engine) is acting up. It's got 164658 km on it, and the engine is overheating. I suspect it's the electric fan, especially since it doesn't seem to be kicking in. Could a dodgy cable or plug connection cause this?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Renault VelSatis is experiencing engine overheating, suspected to be due to the electric fan not activating. A potential cause identified is a faulty cable or plug connection. After consulting with others and taking the vehicle to a workshop, the issue was confirmed to be a defective plug connection to the fan, which was subsequently repaired.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar overheating problem with my old Opel Astra. The radiator fan wasn't working properly either. Have you checked the fan clutch at all? Could be that, or maybe something else in the cooling system.

Fan clutch, huh? I'm not super familiar with that part. Where exactly is it located, and is there an easy way to test if it's the culprit before I start tearing things apart? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Honestly, I'm no expert either. In my case, after fiddling around for ages, it turned out to be a corroded connection somewhere. Best bet is probably take it to a workshop, they'll find it pretty fast.

I took your advice and brought it in. Turns out you were spot on – it was a defective plug connection to the fan! They fixed it for 95€.
