VelSatis Rear Window Heating Issue

Rear window heating on my 2007 Renault VelSatis diesel isn't working. The button light is on, but no defrosting. There's an error stored, and the windshield heating seems weaker. Could a bad battery cause this? The car has 216332 km. It's driving me nuts!

Summary of the thread

The rear window heating on a 2007 Renault VelSatis diesel is not functioning despite the button light being on, and there's an error stored. A potential cause could be a weak or failing battery, as similar issues in other vehicles have been linked to low voltage affecting electrical systems. It is suggested to check the battery's voltage and consider a workshop visit for a thorough diagnosis.

Interesting issue. I had a similar problem with my old BMW, a 2012 3-series. The rear defroster stopped working, and it turned out to be a heavily discharged battery causing weird electrical gremlins. Have you checked your battery's voltage lately? A weak battery can trigger seemingly unrelated errors in modern cars.

That's good to know! I wouldn't have thought of the battery. How did you find out it was the battery on your BMW? Did it throw up a specific error code or were there other clues?

Well, similar to your situation I had some seemingly unrelated electrical issues popping up. After some research, I brought it to a workshop. Their diagnostic equipment pointed to low voltage during peak electrical load. They tested the battery and confirmed it was on its last legs. So, given your symptoms and stored error, a battery check is worth pursuing, but it may be time for a workshop visit.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I'll get the battery checked ASAP. Sounds like the gremlins are similar. I will take it to the workshop next week, since I don't have equipment to test this myself. I eventually had to pay 290€ to get it repaired. I'll post what I find out!
