VelSatis transmission oil pressure sensor fault
Summary of the thread
The initial problem was an engine warning light on a 2004 Renault VelSatis diesel, with an error code indicating a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. The symptoms included the gearbox going into limp mode and clunky, sometimes grinding shifts. The possible causes discussed were low transmission fluid or incorrect fluid type, which could affect the sensor's performance. The suggested solution was to check and correct the fluid level and type before considering sensor replacement, which resolved the issue when the fluid was topped up.

Fluid change was 30k km ago. I didn't do it myself, so I'm not 100% sure which fluid they used. Could the wrong fluid mess with the pressure sensor? Or is the sensor faulty?

While a faulty sensor is possible, incorrect fluid or low fluid can affect transmission performance and trigger the fault. I recommend a workshop check the fluid level and type before replacing the sensor. It might save money.

Took it to a workshop, and the oil level was low. They topped it up and cleared the error. Seems to be running smoothly now, shifts are normal again. The total cost was 365€, but worth it to avoid a new sensor!

I had a similar experience with my VelSatis. The symptoms sound very familiar. Has the transmission fluid been checked recently? And was the correct type of fluid used if it was changed?
