VelSatis transmission oil pressure sensor fault

Engine warning light on my 2004 Renault VelSatis diesel. Error code says transmission oil pressure sensor fault. Gearbox goes into limp mode, shifts are clunky, sometimes grinding. Fuses are fine. Could low oil cause this?

I had a similar experience with my VelSatis. The symptoms sound very familiar. Has the transmission fluid been checked recently? And was the correct type of fluid used if it was changed?

Fluid change was 30k km ago. I didn't do it myself, so I'm not 100% sure which fluid they used. Could the wrong fluid mess with the pressure sensor? Or is the sensor faulty?

While a faulty sensor is possible, incorrect fluid or low fluid can affect transmission performance and trigger the fault. I recommend a workshop check the fluid level and type before replacing the sensor. It might save money.

Took it to a workshop, and the oil level was low. They topped it up and cleared the error. Seems to be running smoothly now, shifts are normal again. The total cost was 365€, but worth it to avoid a new sensor!
