VelSatis Transmission Torque Converter Issue

I own a 2009 Renault VelSatis with a diesel engine and 128900 km. The check engine light and transmission indicator are on. The gearbox slips, shifts roughly, and makes grinding noises. Error memory says it could be a torque converter lock-up clutch defect. Is this common?

That sounds frustrating. Slipping and grinding aren't good. Has the transmission fluid ever been changed? When were the fault codes last read? It could be a converter failure.

The transmission fluid was changed 40000 km ago. Fault codes point to a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. Is replacement the only fix?

A faulty lock-up clutch often means replacing the whole torque converter. Can you fix this yourself? A workshop might be better to prevent more issues. Have you checked repair costs?

Thanks for the advice. A local garage confirmed the torque converter and quoted 2120€ for the repair. I've authorized the work.
