Ventilation and heating problems with Ford S MAX model year 2016 - experience reports wanted

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Blower does not work properly

Hi guys, I'm sitting here a bit desperate with my Ford S MAX, built in 2016, petrol engine, which now has around 73,411 km on the clock. I'm a bit worried at the moment because the ventilation is behaving strangely and the heating/cooling isn't really working. There is also a warning light on the speedometer. I suspect this could have something to do with the outside temperature sensor. Now I wanted to ask if any of you have ever had similar problems with your car? What was it like for you? What did the mechanic do and what did he say about the problem? I had no luck with my garage last time and am looking for some experience before I go back. Thank you very much for your help!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2013 Ford Galaxy. It turned out that it was actually the outside temperature sensor. The cable or connector from the sensor was faulty. This was causing the crazy ventilation and heating issues as well as the warning light coming on. It was pretty serious because it was affecting the performance of the engine and the accuracy of the temperature gauge. The mechanic had to replace the sensor and the cable. He told me that a damaged cable connection can cause the sensor to send incorrect signals to the engine management system, which can mess up the engine. So yes, it was a serious problem, but luckily it was fixed by replacing the cable and the sensor. I hope this helps you a little. Good luck!

Hello, thanks for the detailed answer! Eieiei, that sounds like a real nightmare. But it's good to know that it could really be the outside temperature sensor. Do you remember how much you had to pay for the repair? And have you had any other problems with the ventilation or similar since replacing the sensor? Many thanks in advance for the information!

Hello, sure, I still remember the costs! In total, it was €155 to replace the defective cable or the plug connection from the sensor. Expensive, but definitely necessary when you think of the possible effects on the engine. I haven't had any more problems since the replacement, small blessing, no. After the workshop visit, the malfunction of the outside temperature sensor was rectified and everything is running smoothly again. Hopefully you'll get it sorted out soon! Good luck, my fingers are crossed for you!

Hi, wow, that's good news! A bit pricey, sure, but if it solves the problem, it's definitely worth it. I have hope that it could be the same with my Ford S MAX. Thanks to your info, I now feel more confident to make an appointment with the garage. I will tell them to pay special attention to the outside temperature sensor. Thanks again for your help and good wishes! I'll let you know as soon as my car is back on the road. See you then!

This issue could be due to a malfunctioning heater core, a clogged air filter, or a problem with the blend door actuator. Start by checking the coolant level in your car. If it's low, it could be the reason why the heater isn't working properly. If the coolant level is fine, you might want to check the cabin air filter. If it's clogged, it could be restricting the airflow to the windshield. If both are fine, then the issue might be with the blend door actuator, which controls the flow of air in the car's heating system. If it's faulty, it could prevent hot air from reaching the windshield. I recommend having a mechanic inspect these components to identify the exact cause. Please let us know how it goes.
