Venza rough start camshaft sensor
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Toyota Venza hybrid is experiencing rough starts, engine stalling, and an illuminated check engine light, suspected to be due to a faulty camshaft sensor. Another person with similar issues suggested checking the crankshaft sensor as well, as it could affect ignition timing. In a similar case, a defective encoder wheel on the camshaft caused intermittent readings, requiring sensor replacement. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected and potentially replace the faulty components.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't considered the crankshaft sensor. Did the check engine light specifically point to the camshaft sensor in your case?

Yeah, the code reader showed a camshaft position sensor error. Turned out the encoder wheel on the camshaft itself was slightly defective. Caused intermittent readings. If it's that, you’re probably looking at needing to take it in. Sensor testing might narrow it down, but mine needed replacement. Cost me around 700€ all in.

Appreciate the confirmation. Sounds like I'm heading to the workshop then. I'll post about the repair later.

Dude, that sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my Venza a while back. Have you checked the crankshaft sensor too? Could be related to ignition timing if the camshaft position isn't being read correctly.
