Veracruz Combustion Knocking

Hey, I've got a 2006 Hyundai Veracruz, gasoline engine, with almost 200k km on the clock. Lately, I've noticed some knocking during combustion, along with reduced power, jerking when accelerating, and a bit of smoke. The error memory also has a stored error. Could deposits in the combustion chamber be the issue here? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Hyundai Veracruz with nearly 200,000 km is experiencing combustion knocking, reduced power, jerking during acceleration, and smoke, with an error code stored. The issue may be due to deposits in the combustion chamber. Suggestions include using higher octane fuel and professional engine cleaning. Ultimately, heavy carbon build-up was identified as the cause, and professional cleaning resolved the problem.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old Opel Vectra – knocking, rough acceleration, and error codes popping up. Have you checked your fuel octane level? Maybe try running a higher octane fuel for a tank or two and see if it improves?

Interesting. I've been using the regular fuel. What octane level did you find worked best in your Vectra to eliminate the knocking? Also, was your issue definitely combustion chamber deposits, or could it be something else like ignition timing?

With the Vectra, premium fuel definitely helped reduce the knocking. But honestly, the problem never fully went away until I had the engine professionally cleaned. In your case, with those symptoms and error codes, it's best to get it properly diagnosed at a workshop. They can scope the cylinders and confirm if it's really deposits or something else causing pre-ignition.

Thanks, that's helpful. I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll book it into the workshop. Turns out it was heavy carbon build-up. Cost me 425€ to get it sorted, but it runs like new now.
