Thanks. A diagnostic check pointed to a defective control unit. Was the parking position also a factor for you? Can you give more detail about the control unit?

Yes, the parking position was definitely part of it. The car wouldn't always recognize it was in park, so it wouldn't start. I'm not sure of the exact part number. I took it to a workshop, and they fixed it. I'd recommend a trusted mechanic since it's complex.

Thanks for confirming the similar issues. I've arranged for my mechanic to inspect and repair the control unit. The estimated repair is 1000€.

Wow, that sounds like what happened with my Verso. Same symptoms – engine wouldn't start sometimes, check engine light, and the shifting felt rough. Have you run diagnostics? Mine was a faulty control unit in the transmission. Did you notice when the issue was more likely to occur?
