Verso Diesel Engine Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Toyota Verso diesel experienced a significant reduction in engine power, with a diagnostic tool indicating a problem with the engine control unit (ECU). The issue was suspected to be related to a defective main relay. After consulting with others who had similar experiences, it was advised to inspect the main relay before replacing the ECU due to cost considerations. The main relay was found to be defective, and replacing it resolved the power loss issue.

The error code wasn't very precise, it only hinted at a generic malfunction within the engine control unit. Did your Opel display such ambiguous error codes as well? Did replacing the computer module rectify the problem entirely?

Yeah, the error code on my Astra was equally unhelpful, just something along the lines of 'ECU communication error'. Replacing the module did fix it, but honestly, it's best to get a workshop to check the main relay, before you just replace the whole ECU. It’s an expensive part!

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice! I scheduled an appointment with a trusted workshop to have the main relay inspected. The Main relay was indeed defective, and replacing it for 120€ solved the Issue!

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Same symptoms - loss of power and a lit-up dashboard. Turned out to be something with the computer module. Did the error code point specifically at the ECU or was it more vague?
