Verso immobilizer problem

My 2012 Toyota Verso with a gasoline engine is having immobilizer issues. It sometimes starts briefly then dies. Diagnostics show an error in the error memory, probably the immobilizer. Could it be the key, or should I look at other car electronics?

I had similar issues with my Renault Megane a while back. Symptoms sound identical.

Could you elaborate on the specifics of the Megane issue? Were the symptoms identical – specifically, the engine starting briefly before cutting out, and an immobilizer-related error code?

Yes, the symptoms were identical. I suggest taking it to a workshop to get the key reprogrammed. It might solve the issue.

The issue was indeed a programming problem with the key. Reprogramming at the workshop for 45€ resolved it.
