Verso intake manifold flap issue
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Toyota Verso diesel exhibited reduced engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, a loud hissing sound, and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be linked to the intake manifold flap control. The engine light was on, indicating a potential issue with the intake manifold flap, which regulates air flow to the engine. It was advised to tow the vehicle to a mechanic to prevent further damage. The problem was confirmed to be a defective intake manifold flap control switch, which was repaired, resolving the issues.

Yes, the engine light is on. I haven't checked the error codes myself, as I don't have a code reader. Is it safe to drive it to a mechanic, or should I get it towed?

Driving it might cause further damage, especially with a suspected intake manifold issue. Think of the manifold flap as a gatekeeper for air; if it's stuck, the engine isn't getting the right mix. Best to get it towed to a workshop and have them read the codes. A defective switch is the likely culprit. Prepare for a bill though.

Thanks for the advice. I had it towed to the shop, and you were spot on – it was the intake manifold flap control switch. The total repair cost was 465€. Runs like new now!

Sounds like a classic intake manifold flap issue. Is the engine light on? If so, what are the error codes?
