Verso reduced engine power
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Toyota Verso with reduced engine power was suspected to have issues due to previous chip tuning. The problem was identified through a fault code from a generic OBD2 scanner. A similar issue was resolved by re-flashing the ECU with a proper map at a specialist workshop. The solution involved adjusting the software, which successfully restored engine performance.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, the scan tool gave me a code, but I don't remember it. It was a generic OBD2 scanner, nothing fancy. When you say 'dodgy remap', what exactly happened? Did you manage to fix it yourself or did you have to take it in?

Right, a generic scanner might not give you the most detailed info, but it's a start. In my Insignia's case, the chip tuning was poorly done, causing the ECU to request fuel or air that the engine couldn't physically deliver. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend trying to fix it yourself unless you're seriously clued up on ECU mapping. I ended up going to a specialist workshop who diagnosed the issue and re-flashed the ECU with a proper map. Saved me a lot of headaches!

Okay, appreciate the advice! I'll take it to a workshop and see what they say. The error was indeed caused by the chip tuning. They had to adjust something in the software and it cost me 180€ to repair. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Hey, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Insignia. Reduced power and an error stored, drove me nuts! Did the scan tool give you a specific diagnostic code? What kind of auto scanner are you using? Knowing that info might help narrow things down. In my case, it was a dodgy remap causing the ECU to throw a fit.
