Verso start stop malfunction

Hey, I'm having a problem with my 2011 Toyota Verso (gasoline engine). The start-stop system has decided to take a permanent vacation! It's throwing an error code, shuts the engine off like it should at lights, but then… nothing! The warning light blazes on the speedometer, and it refuses to automatically restart. I'm guessing it's not the starter motor itself since it does crank sometimes, and the battery is fully charged, isn't it? Could a discharged battery be the culprit, or am I looking at something more sinister?

I had a similar issue with my Verso. Does it feel like the battery is struggling a bit, even though it seems charged? Start-stop systems are super sensitive to voltage. Is your battery the original one?

That's interesting! Now that you mention it, the engine does crank a little slower than usual sometimes. I haven't actually tested the voltage under load though. How did you figure out it was the battery? Did you get any specific error codes?

Yeah, same symptoms. I didn't bother with error codes myself. Just took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the battery. These start-stop systems need a beefy battery to work correctly.

Awesome, thanks for the tip! I'll get the battery checked out properly and probably replace it. Sounds like that's the most likely culprit, saving me from chasing ghosts in the engine. The shop said it will be around 290€ with the new battery and installation. I appreciate the help!
