Vezel Start Stop Failure

Hey, I'm having an issue with my 2023 Honda Vezel hybrid. The start-stop system has completely konked out! It started a few weeks ago, and now it's throwing an error, the engine shuts off randomly at traffic lights, and the speedometer has a warning light. I've checked the fuses, but nothing seems blown. Any ideas? My Vezel already has 162936 km on the clock, so I am a bit worried it is something serious. I read somewhere it might be the starter motor, but I'm hoping it's something simpler like the car battery.

Summary of the thread

The 2023 Honda Vezel hybrid experienced a failure in the start-stop system, with symptoms including random engine shutdowns at traffic lights and a warning light on the speedometer. The issue was suspected to be related to the battery, given the vehicle's high mileage and the absence of other electrical problems. It was advised to have the battery professionally tested, as hybrid systems require precise diagnostics. Upon professional inspection, the battery was found to be heavily discharged and defective, and replacing it resolved the start-stop system issue.

The symptoms you describe for your Honda Vezel hybrid, particularly the error message coupled with start-stop failure and the warning light, strongly suggest an issue with the battery's state of charge or the battery itself. Hybrid vehicles rely heavily on a healthy battery for proper functioning of the start-stop system. Have you noticed any other electrical issues, such as slow cranking, or dimming headlights? How old is your current battery?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any other electrical problems, to be honest. The headlights seem fine, and the engine cranks normally when it cranks. Regarding the battery age, I believe it's the original one that came with the car. Is there any way to test the battery myself, or am I better off taking it to a professional?

Given that it's likely the original battery and you're experiencing start-stop issues, it's highly probable the battery is failing, especially with that mileage. While you could attempt a voltage test with a multimeter, the most accurate assessment requires specialized equipment to evaluate its internal resistance and overall health under load. Considering the complexity of hybrid systems and the potential for misdiagnosis, I'd strongly recommend taking your Vezel to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnostic check. They can pinpoint the issue and confirm whether the battery is indeed the culprit before you spend money on a replacement.

Thanks a million for the advice! I was dreading it, but it sounds like a trip to the shop is unavoidable. I took your advice and brought it in. Turns out, the battery was indeed heavily discharged and defective, just like you suspected. They replaced it, and the start-stop system is working perfectly again. Total cost was around 290€, which I guess isn't too bad. Really appreciate your help!
