Viano AC problems
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Mercedes Viano is experiencing air conditioning issues, with symptoms indicating a possible failure of the refrigerant compressor and a warning light on the speedometer. Diagnostics suggest a faulty AC control unit as the likely cause. A similar issue was reported by another owner, who recommended getting a proper diagnosis at a workshop to confirm the exact problem before proceeding with repairs.

Can you remember any specifics about the repair, like which part failed or what they did? Any detail about the AC unit would help. I’m trying to understand how complex the repair is before I spend 980€.

I can't recall the exact component. But the mechanic mentioned the control unit and some sensors. Because our automotive cooling symptoms are so similar, it's probably best to get a proper diagnosis at a workshop. They'll find the exact cause, so you'll know for sure what's faulty. That's better than just replacing parts randomly.

Thanks; that backs up my suspicion about the control unit. I appreciate you sharing your experience with similar AC unit issues, even if you don't remember the exact part. I'll go ahead with the repair based on the diagnosis and your feedback. It looks like I will pay the 980€ at the shop.

That sounds familiar. I had similar car air conditioning issues with my Vito. The cooling system just stopped working, and it was something to do with the AC unit. I can't remember exactly what it was, but the symptoms seem very similar.
