Viano cruise control issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mercedes Viano experienced a cruise control malfunction, with an error message indicating a potential issue. The suspected cause was a defective cable or plug connection within the cruise control actuator. A suggestion was made to check the brake light switch, as a faulty switch could interfere with the cruise control system. Ultimately, the problem was identified as a corroded connector within the cruise control actuator circuit, which was resolved by a workshop for 95€, covering diagnostics and repairs.

Interesting. I hadn't considered the brake light switch. Is the cruise control actuator directly related to the brake light switch, or is it more of a general safety interlock? Could a faulty signal there really disable the entire cruise control functionality, triggering an error message like this?

Yup, it's happened to me! The brake light switch sends a signal to the ECU (Engine Control Unit). The ECU needs to know if the brakes are applied to disengage the cruise control. If the switch is faulty, it might think the brakes are always on, disabling the cruise control. Honestly, though, since you already have an error code stored, and know the plug connection could be defective, I'd say just take it to a decent workshop. They should be able to pinpoint it quickly.

Thanks for the suggestion and confirmation of the brake light switch relevance. In the end, I opted to take it to the workshop. As suspected, it was indeed a corroded connector within the cruise control actuator circuit itself. The 95€ covered the diagnostics, connector replacement, and clearing the error memory. Appreciate the input!

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Vito a while back. Cruise control just quit, and a light popped up on the dash. Did you check the brake light switch? Sometimes a faulty switch can mess with the cruise control system. Quick and easy check before diving into the deeper car electronics.
