Viano Diesel Overheating and Communication Error Resolved

My Viano from 2010 with a diesel engine is overheating, coolant is spilling, and the check engine light is on. It has 296152 km on it. I suspect a control unit communication fault. Could a defective cable or plug connection really cause this? What are your thoughts?

Sounds like a connectivity problem. I had something similar with my old Renault. Engine overheating and weird issues due to a data link problem. Have you checked the CAN bus?

CAN bus? How did you diagnose the data link? The car diagnostics tool showed a general communication error. Is there a specific component I should focus on?

The car diagnostics showed a communication fault for me too. It turned out to be a corroded plug. I suggest taking it to a workshop; they'll pinpoint it faster.

It was the cable connection. I replaced it. The error is gone and the engine runs fine. The repair cost 95€. Thanks for the advice.
