Viano Diesel PTC Heater Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Mercedes Viano diesel is experiencing poor engine performance during cold starts and increased fuel consumption, with a diagnostic check indicating an error related to the PTC heater. The issue is likely due to a faulty heating element in the PTC heater circuit. A suggested solution is to replace the heating element, as similar issues have been resolved this way in other vehicles. It is recommended to get a professional diagnosis and repair quote from a workshop.

I did not specifically check the temperature control sensor readings, but the error code points directly to the PTC heater circuit. What did the heater repair involve on your Skoda? Was it just a replacement of the heating element?

The heater repair was just a straight replacement of the heating element. The garage said it was a common electrical fault, especially after a few years. If your code's pointing straight at the PTC heater, and you're seeing the symptoms, it's probably the culprit. I'd suggest getting a quote from a workshop just to be sure.

It sounds like I'm on the right track. I'll take it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis and heater repair quote. I was quoted 350€ for parts and labor for the PTC heater repair, so I'll proceed with that.

I had a similar issue with my old Skoda Octavia, though it was petrol. Rough starts, especially when cold, and the engine management light was on. It was a faulty heating element in the PTC heater. Did you check the temperature control sensor readings? What electrical fault code are you getting?
