Viano electronic parking brake issue

My Mercedes Viano from 2013, equipped with a diesel engine and currently at 99717 km, is exhibiting an electronic parking brake malfunction. The electronic handbrake is non-functional, an error is stored in the error memory, and the warning light is illuminated. Diagnostics suggest a defective electric motor within the brake calliper. An estimate places the repair cost around 505€. Has anyone encountered similar issues? Any insights on the brake control system glitch or potential vehicle safety implications related to this electronic brake failure would be appreciated.

I had a similar experience with my Vito. Electronic brake issues are a pain. Did you notice any unusual noises coming from the rear wheels before the complete failure? I'd check the connections to the calliper motor first. Could be a simple wiring issue before you assume the motor itself is dead.

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't notice any unusual noises beforehand. When you had the issue, did the error memory specify which side was the problem, or was it a generic 'electronic parking brake malfunction' error?

Mine was a generic error at first. The workshop diagnosed it down to the right rear calliper after some testing. Honestly, save yourself the headache and get it properly diagnosed. It's vehicle safety at stake, after all. I went to the workshop and they sorted it out.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I followed your suggestion and took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was indeed the right rear calliper motor. Repair completed, and the electronic parking brake is now functioning correctly.
